Jairzinho Rozenstruik has secured a quick end to his UFC Fight Night headliner against Alexander Volkov. While this prediction came true, it didn’t quite match Rozenstruik’s vision.
Volkov made short work of Rozenstruik at UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday night. “Drago” survived a tense tornado of pocket strikes and quickly backed Rozenstruik up against the fence. Volkov came back with a flurry of his own, teetering Rozenstruik and throwing his victim’s gumshield to the ground. Referee Herb Dean called off the fight at 2:12 of the first round despite protests from Rozenstruik. Volkov officially picked up the win via TKO.
“I just feel happy to get a win. Now I’m waiting for the next fight. Anyone. I’m ready for any challenge, anything,” Volkov told the commentator. UFC Paul Felder in the post-fight interview. “I know he doesn’t have a good back to cage defense. I saw him go in the cage and just stepped forward for the knockout. Good fight.”
Volkov, a former Bellator and M-1 heavyweight champion, improved to 35-10 overall and earned his only first-round result in 13 UFC fights over six years. He added Rozenstruik to a hit list that includes former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum and former Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem. Rozenstruik fell to 12-4 and has now suffered back-to-back losses for the first time in his mixed martial arts career.
