UFC Fight Night Predictions – Calvin Kattar vs. Giga Chikdaze: Fight Card, Odds, Start Time, Live Stream

UFC fans rejoice as the promotion is back for its first Fight Night of 2022 after a month-long hiatus. Top 10 featherweights Calvin Kattar and Giga Chikadze should deliver dazzling displays of striking for hungry MMA fans.

Kattar (22-5) returns to action for the first time in 364 days after suffering a record loss to Max Holloway. Kattar absorbed 447 strikes against Holloway in 25 minutes. The scorecards read 50–43, 50–43, 50–42 in favor of Holloway. UFC President Dana White was so concerned for Kattar’s well-being that he demanded that Kattar be taken to the hospital immediately. Kattar has never been knocked out, but the cumulative damage he took in his last fight has people worried for his well-being against an attacker of Chikadze’s caliber.

Kattar had won four of his last five before the loss to Holloway, but that loss hurt his mark. Still, there are redeeming qualities in his game that made him a top 10 fighter. He has a proven gas tank, as evidenced by fights against Dan Ige and Zabit Magomedsharipov. His sharp boxing and ability to mix elbows was on display against Jeremy Stephens. Against Chikadze, however, Kattar will have to present an entirely different approach.

Chikadze (14-2) has turned into a potential dark horse contender at featherweight. An impressive win over Kattar will pre-select him for a title shot against champion Alex Volkanovski. Chikadze’s impression was not always so cheerful.

His first contact with UFC fans came during Dana White’s Contender series, losing a third-round rear naked choke to Austin Springer. Kickboxing veteran Glory made his official UFC debut a year and gradually found his footing. A pair of split decision wins were followed by two unanimous decision wins. That pattern was replaced with TKO wins over Jamey Simmons and Cub Swanson, plus a bonus TKO over Edson Barboza. Chikadze is one of the most accomplished forwards in the UFC. Now that he has a solid MMA base under him, the featherweight division should be worried.

Calvin Kattar vs. Giga Chikadze: Chikadze has fought and won four times in the past 15 months while Kattar took a historic beating from which it’s unclear how his body recovered. Chikadze is in rare form, following TKO victories over Barboza and Swanson. Sure, his recent opponents are aging out of the game, but Chikadze has played with two of the featherweight veteran forwards best. Kattar is undoubtedly one of the top 10 talents. Fans saw hints of his potential in a competitive loss to Magomedsharipov, actualized potential against Ige and Jeremy Stephens. Sadly, there are far too many question marks following his brutal loss to Holloway and the ensuing break. Kattar may have to use a wrestling game to deal with Chikadze’s striking insight, a difficult feat. Kattar has never been knocked out, but how healthy is that chin? Combining that concern with the lengthy layoff, it’s hard to side with Kattar. Pick: Giga Chikadze via TKO3
