Gujarat on Thursday reported seven new cases of Omicron, all in areas under the jurisdiction of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation, bringing the state’s tally of the new variant of Covid to 30. The new cases include three children under the age of 12, the state health department said.

“In view of the increase in the number of Omicron cases, we have stepped up contact tracing and testing of foreign returnees, especially from ‘at risk’ countries. Previously, we tested them on the sixth and eighth day after the arrival, but now we will collect their samples on the third, fifth and eighth day of their arrival, ”Manoj Agrawal, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) told IANS.

Meanwhile, Gujarat also reported 111 new Covid cases and two deaths on Thursday, up from 78 recoveries. The state’s number of active cases currently stands at 668. More than 2.13 lakh doses of the Covid vaccine were administered on Thursday, bringing the total statewide number beyond 8, 78 crore.

Two terrorist associates, linked to the banned terrorist group LeT, have been arrested in Budgam, Jammu and Kashmir, and incriminated documents have been recovered from their possession, officials said Thursday.

Police said acting on specific information, a joint team of Budgam Police, Army 2 RR and CRPF apprehended two terrorist associates from the Magam region in Budgam.

They were identified as Mohammad Shafi Ganai, resident of Kawoosa Khalisa and Zahoor Ahmad Chopan, resident of Mamoosa Pattan. The incriminated elements were recovered in their possession.
