SANTA CRUZ – A local family has been devastated after discovering that a man allegedly broke into their home late one night this week and began loudly vandalizing the property.
Shortly before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Santa Cruz Police were called in with an active burglary and home invasion not far from the Santa Cruz County Emeline Street complex.

Responding Santa Cruz officers, with the help of a K9 unit, located suspected burglar Alexander Wright, 32, of Redondo Beach, inside the house. Wright was bitten by the K9 during his arrest, police said.
According to a post by the Santa Cruz Police Department on the Facebook List of Recommended Responses to Break and Enter, “the residents of the house did all of these right things when they heard someone break and enter.” The department suggested that others facing a similar situation also quickly and discreetly check for the intruder, stay calm, call the police, escape or stay out of sight if they can’t, keep quiet. and follow police dispatch instructions.
Wright is due to be brought to justice on Monday in Santa Cruz County Superior Court on charges laid Thursday for felony, burglary and vandalism, as well as for resisting arrest. As of Thursday, he was staying in the Santa Cruz County Jail in lieu of a $ 100,000 bond.
