Apple TV Plus’ first-ever live baseball broadcast has left some fans frustrated and disappointed, with complaints about connectivity issues and the quality of commentary appearing during and after games (via iMore). The streaming service aired the New York Mets vs. Washington Nationals and Houston Astros vs. Los Angeles Angels last night, and I think fans of all four teams can agree on one thing: the early days of the Friday Night Baseball from Apple TV Plus. doesn’t go down as planned.
To start, a Number of Fans said their broadcasts were interrupted during matches, despite the internet working well. When the stream stopped, viewers received an error message stating, “There was a problem loading this video. If it continues, check your internet connection. It looks like Apple may have had widespread connectivity issues, but there was no confirmation from the company. Apple did not immediately respond to The edgerequest for comment.

When fans could actually watch the game, some mentioned they muted it due to the distracting and sometimes blatantly off-topic commentary. Instead of focusing on the game, viewers said advertisers talked about squirrelsJapanese restaurant chain Benihanaand even Apple some products. Others thought the commentators – a team made up of Melanie Newman, Chris Young, Hannah Keyser, Brooke Fletcher, Stephen Nelson, Hunter Pence, Katie Nolan and Heidi Watney – came across as not having much baseball experience.
Fans were too disappointed to the lack of playback controls, preventing them from pausing, rewinding or fast forwarding during gameplay. To Apple’s credit, the company Is say these checks are not supported during Friday Night Baseball on his locationbut it would still be a handy feature to have.
Friday Night Baseball on Apple TV+ (which is produced by MLB Network) feels like watching the MLB app on an iPad.

Things weren’t so bad though. Some fans were impressed with the crisp picture quality and the lack of obnoxious banner ads. Others sharp on the clear and simplistic on-screen graphics, such as the subtle name of the player at bat and the probability statistics in the lower right corner of the screen. Brandon Costa, Chief Digital Officer at Sports Video Group, Underline the use of the sans serif font that Apple typically uses for its marketing materials (called “San Francisco” for all font enthusiasts), making it a very Apple-meets-MLB experience.
Apple first announced its partnership with MLB at its Peek Performance event last month. In addition to streaming live baseball, Apple TV Plus gives fans access to replays and is also set to stream. MLB Big Round, a show that features highlights and analysis of the latest baseball games. Live baseball games are available for free on the Apple TV app For a limited timebut it’s unclear when Apple plans to require a subscription for all viewers.
